Director, Oncology Services1999 - Present In a 350-bed, for-profit hospital, held the top leadership position over a 34-bed in-patient oncology unit and a 15-chair out patient chemotherapy department. Supervised 80 FTEs and a 5M budget. Responsible for total budget development and attainment, staff recruitment and development, JCAHO standards, PI Plan and physician relations.
Accomplishments:
- Planned, organized, and opened a new oncology unit including establishment of initial budget, hiring all staff, and equipment and supplies procurement.
- Participated in the planning process for achieving designation as a regional cancer center through the American College of Surgeons.
- Coordinated efforts with architect and hospital administration in planning for expansion of the outpatient chemotherapy department from 5 to 15 chairs.
- Streamlined medication order processing and protocols in conjunction with the Pharmacy Department.

Evaluated care delivery and patient care issues while achieving outstanding patient satisfaction ratings. Also responsible for staffing, shift coordinators, discharge planning, case management, and utilization review. Managed operating budget of $10 million and 100+ FTEs.
Accomplishments:
- Researched, developed and implemented a successful critical pathway system for the three top med/surg DRGs, addressing the needs of a rural community and resulting in an identified $350,000 cost savings in the first year.
- Created Clinical Resource Management Department by combining case management, social services and utilization review; resulting in a LOS decrease from 10 to 5 days within 1 year.
- Coordinated efforts to achieve designation as Level III Trauma Center; coordinated trauma education program for staff.
Assistant Director, Medical-Surgical Nursing 1994 - 1997 Reporting to the Director, Medical-Surgical Nursing, was responsible for daily operations and staffing for the medical-surgical and critical care unit of this facility. - Drafted clinical pathways and case management protocols in response to a managed care environment, which reduced medical-surgical length of stay by 1.1 days in 1 year.
- Participated in the planning and implementation of a critical care nursing internship program with successful recruitment of 50% of the interns, and maintained 100% retention for two years.
- Served on a hospital-wide committee that reorganized nursing management structure and decreased total management staff by 20%, which resulted in a net salary savings of approximately $200,000.
